This workshop is both theoretical and experiential and aims to give
participants an introduction into the potential of mask-work in
self-development and therapy.
Masks have fascinated people for thousands of years - from the use
of masks in shamanism, carnival to theatre and therapy, masks have been
recognised as mysterious and potent objects of transformation,
play and healing. Mask-work is a powerful and playful way to explore
aspects of the self and to look behind the ‘masks of everyday life.’
Masks invite us to connect or re-connect with our creativity and with
parts of ourselves that have been lying hidden, dormant or forgotten:
aspects that might want to be recognised, brought to light and
‘show their faces.’
An overview over the origin of masks and the historical, anthropological,
spiritual and creative use of masks will be given and the use of masks
with a variety of clients will be presented. This includes visual
and case-material from various projects.
The workshop will give opportunity for discussion and various mask-making
techniques can be tried out such as creating masks from clay, plaster-of-Paris,
as well as natural and everyday /’junk’ materials will be introduced.
We will look at work with masks in the framework of therapy, counselling
and self-development, its varied uses and possible dangers and limitations.
The workshop does not require any previous experience of working with masks nor any artistic experience.
Different ways of connecting with the made masks and ways to ‘get into’ or ‘behind the mask’ will be introduced.

WELCOME to WILDWING’s OCTOBER Newsletter!!
I spent late September in Kuopio, Finland where I performed ‘RED CROSSING’ a three day durational performance, transforming a bridge into a sculpture as part of
ANTI Festival. I wanted to share some pictures of this wonderful experience with you, which left me excited about performing again, invigorated by interesting meetings with locals and other artists and by this gorgeous landscape and light!
I felt deeply moved by stories shared with me on the bridge and happy to be weaving!
When I left for the UK the bridge was still covered in red wool
until the autumn storms started to unravel -
creating a quite beautiful moving sculpture!
It was great to experience how one thin thread layered
over a long time can change so much and create
such a visible field....
Now, being back, I keep weaving the red thread through
the projects of my life, including WILDWING, performance,
new work and projects...
Please see below upcoming events and workshops!
I look forward to seeing you!!
With warm wishes!

Performance of
‘Towards the Heart of the Sea’
as part of Shortcuts at
Nightingale Theatre, Brighton
on 20th of October 08 at 8pm
http://www.nightingaletheatre.co.uk/
and 26th of October at Betsy’s Salon, London
‘TOWARDS THE HEART OF THE SEA’
is inspired by the stranded boats of Dungeness,
Derek Jarman’s work and the shamanic tradition of spirit boat journeys.
It s a lament and calling, an exploration of the liminal,
the place where the old is gone and the new not yet in sight,
between embarking and disembarking, dreaming and action,
life and passing.Between abstract and concrete the piece
utilises movement, sound-collage, experimental singing
with glass harmonica, text and video.
