‘The Other Face-
an Introduction to Therapeutic Mask Work’
a one day course at Roehampton University,
as part of the ‘Lets Engage Programme’
on 22nd of November 2008 10.30- 5pm

‘Man is least himself when he talks in his own person.
Give him a mask and he will tell you the truth’ Oscar Wilde

This workshop is both theoretical and experiential and aims to give
participants an introduction into the potential of mask-work in
self-development and therapy.
Masks have fascinated people for thousands of years - from the use
of masks in shamanism, carnival to theatre and therapy, masks have been
recognised as mysterious and potent objects of transformation,
play and healing. Mask-work is a powerful and playful way to explore
aspects of the self and to look behind the ‘masks of everyday life.’
Masks invite us to connect or re-connect with our creativity and with
parts of ourselves that have been lying hidden, dormant or forgotten:
aspects that might want to be recognised, brought to light and
‘show their faces.’
An overview over the origin of masks and the historical, anthropological,
spiritual and creative use of masks will be given and the use of masks
with a variety of clients will be presented. This includes visual
and case-material from various projects.
The workshop will give opportunity for discussion and various mask-making
techniques can be tried out such as creating masks from clay, plaster-of-Paris,
as well as natural and everyday /’junk’ materials will be introduced.
We will look at work with masks in the framework of therapy, counselling
and self-development, its varied uses and possible dangers and limitations.
The workshop does not require any previous experience of working with masks nor any artistic experience.
Different ways of connecting with the made masks and ways to ‘get into’ or ‘behind the mask’ will be introduced.

And from JANUARY 09:

'INTO THE WILD CENTRE OF CREATIVITY'- an on-going Creativity Coaching group

Whether you are at the beginning path of
connecting or re-connecting with your creativity
or a seasoned artist, Creativity Coaching can support
you in various ways: exploring and unblocking obstacles
and patterns that might hinder you in fulfilling your
creative dreams, addressing practical, existential or
spiritual issues and celebrating your achievements.

This small group will offer a supportive and nurturing
environment to work with hands-on creative exercises and space to address issues that might stand in the way of fulfilling creative potential, such as procrastination, burn-out, loss of meaning etc.

Every session will include some creative and stimulating exercises, such as free- writing, mapping, collage, drawing, clay as well as time for discussion and exchange. We will look at time-management, balance, how to avoid burn-out, strategies for regular creating etc. and you are encouraged to commit to individual ‘homework’ in between sessions.

This group will be on-going and a commitment for three months initially is essential.
No artistic skills are needed only a willingness to work within a group and use creative media!

The group will run weekly,
Tuesdays 6 to 7.30 pm
maximum 6 participants
Start: Tuesday 27th of January 09
Cost: £150 for 10 sessions,
some concessions available.
I look forward to hearing from you!

‘Creativity is a shapechanger. One moment it takes this form, the next that. It is like a dazzling spirit who appears to us all, yet is hard to describe for no one agrees on what they saw in that brilliant flash. Are the wielding of pigments and canvas, or paint chips and wallpaper, evidence of its existence? How about pen and paper, flower borders on the garden path, building a university? Yes, yes. Ironing a collar well, cooking up a revolution? Yes. Touching with love the leaves of a plant, pulling down ‘the big deal’, tying off the loom, finding one’s voice, loving someone well? Yes. Catching the hot body of the newborn, raising a child to adulthood, helping raise a nation from its knees? Yes. Tending to a marriage like the orchard it is, digging for psychic gold, finding the shapely word, sewing a blue curtain?  All are of the creative life….Some say the creative life is in ideas, some say it is in doing. It seems in most instances to be in a simple being.’

Welcome to WILDWING’S NOVEMBER  Newsletter!

I felt happy and privileged  to be able to celebrate  Samhain or Halloween, the ‘summers end’ and Celtic new year with a Retreat at Tilton house, which was truly a magical and powerful ‘Journey into the Wild Centre of Creativity’.

Between Samhain, when we honour our ancestors and when the veil between the worlds and between life and death is thinnest, and Solstice on the 21st of December, the days are becoming increasingly short. An opportunity to go inside, contemplate our inner fire, let go of what is no longer needed and connect with our innermost dreams and visions for a new cycle to come.

I want to share a quote by Clarissa Pincola Estees about the nature of Creativity which I found inspiring and expansive:

In this spirit...here some of the things I’m looking forward to in the near future:
