Mask-work is a powerful, playful and beautiful way to open doors to self-expression, to explore aspects of the Self and to look behind the ‘Masks of everyday life’.

Masks invite us to connect or re-connect with our creativity and with parts of ourselves that have been lying hidden, dormant or forgotten: facets that might want to be recognised, brought to light and life and ‘show their faces’.

Masks have fascinated people for thousands of years as a magical and mystical place where transformation and integration can take place. From the use of masks in shamanism, carnival to theatre and therapy, masks have been recognised as potent objects of transformation, play and healing.

Mask-work proves particularly helpful in working with issues of identity and authenticity e.g exploring the 'persona', the face one shows to the outside world and the hidden 'private' face’.

It provides a way of looking behind the 'facade' and discover and explore various facets in a creative, powerful and playful way. Mask-work includes mask-making from various different materials, such as clay, paper-masché, Plaster of Paris, natural and ‘junk-materials, as well as different ways of engaging with the mask, such as movement, voice-work, silent dialogue etc.

I have been facilitating mask work for fifteen years, in Germany, Italy and in the UK. My approach to mask-work depends on the needs of different people, and I adapt my approach accordingly. I work in an eclectic and holistic way that can include practical mask-making techniques, exploration of the created masks and elements of Gestalt-work, movement and voice-work.

I also use mask work in my SHAMANIC CREATIVITY RETREATS.

such as ‘The Mask of Power’ summer retreat in Cornwall.

I have  facilitated masks work with a broad variety of people and settings such as as at a Women’s Centre, with women and men affected by HIV and AIDS, adults with learning difficulties, children and adolescents in care, adults with mental health issues, self-development workshops for women in Italy and in shamanic creativity work.

Individual work can focus on a particular theme, issue or aspect of the personality that you would like to explore in more depth.

Self-development workshops for groups are theme-based and can run for one, two or three days or as a project over 8-12 weeks.

Please contact me if you would like me

to run a MASK project for your institution, course or project!
